In the heart of Cambridgeshire, a groundbreaking mental health podcast is determined to challenge and eliminate stigma surrounding this critical issue.
The inaugural episode showcases Gary Clarke, a former prison officer turned mental health advocate, alongside Allan Hughes, who serves as the co-production lead at CPSL Mind. Together, these two passionate mental health advocates are dedicated to supporting fathers through CPSL Mind's perinatal services, which include the Andy's Man Club based in Peterborough. In his role as the Perinatal Project Dads Worker, Clarke plays an essential part in assisting dads throughout Cambridgeshire.
Clarke emphasizes the struggles many men face, stating, "Life can be incredibly challenging, and there's often immense pressure on men to fulfill the role of provider. However, we are here to dismantle that social taboo." He further elaborates, "Mental health isn't solely about meeting others' expectations; it's about striving to be the best version of yourself."
Hughes adds to the conversation, stating, "The topics we discuss are authentic, impactful, and extremely relevant. We take great pride in partnering with CPSL Mind to ensure that mental health support feels accessible to everyone."
The Side by Side podcast will be hosted on CPSL Mind's YouTube channel, where listeners can look forward to future episodes that will delve into issues like youth mental health and various local initiatives aimed at improving community well-being.
Additionally, the CPSL Mind team will make an appearance at Cambridge United Football Club on February 14th, with backing from the Cambridge United Foundation, reinforcing their unwavering commitment to enhancing mental health resources within the community.
But here's where it gets controversial: how do we truly redefine masculinity and mental wellness in today’s society? Join the conversation and share your thoughts—what are your views on the pressures faced by men regarding mental health?
