DOST Launches iMULA: Digital Tool Revolutionizing Agriculture for La Trinidad Farmers (2026)

Bold headline: A new digital system is set to transform farming data in La Trinidad, empowering farmers with faster, better access to vital information.

A fresh digital platform called iMULA (Information System for Management and Utilization of Land and Agri-data) was launched on December 2, 2025, in La Trinidad, Benguet. The rollout marks a major step toward modernizing how agricultural and land information is collected, stored, and used by local farmers and service providers.

The launch brought together officials from the Department of Science and Technology-CAR, the Benguet Provincial Science and Technology Office, the La Trinidad local government, and various stakeholders. iMULA is a multi-user web and mobile application designed to digitize and streamline important agricultural data. It supports the management of farmer profiles, crops, livestock, and other relevant information, making it easier to organize and access essential data.

Key capabilities include the distribution of LGU advisories, automated generation of reports, and simplified submission of damage reports. By reducing reliance on manual processes, iMULA is expected to speed up the delivery of interventions and assistance to farmers who are affected by disasters.

Barangay Agriculture Extension Worker (BAEW) Jan Michael Bernardo shared his optimism about iMULA’s potential to enhance agricultural services. He noted that the system will help local government units better understand farmers’ needs, establish meaningful connections between data and lived experiences, and provide insights into farmers’ thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. He also emphasized that farmers can register and access their records online, though he acknowledged the ongoing challenge of training farmers to use the new system and to ensure easy access to their records. He expressed gratitude to DOST and the La Trinidad LGU for spearheading the initiative.

BAEWs are community volunteers who assist with monitoring agricultural projects, disseminating information, conducting surveys, and maintaining farmer profiles.

Funding for iMULA came from the DOST’s Smart and Sustainable Communities Program, and the project was implemented in collaboration with La Trinidad’s Municipal Agriculture Office. La Trinidad serves as the pilot site, with plans to roll out the system to other Benguet municipalities to enhance data management and service delivery.

Contemporary note: As digital tools like iMULA gain traction, stakeholders consider how such platforms may reshape how agricultural information is collected, stored, and used—sparking important discussions about data privacy, equitable access, and the speed of government response in times of crisis.

Would this kind of centralized digital data system improve support for farmers in your area, or do concerns about data privacy and inclusivity temper the enthusiasm? Share your thoughts in the comments.
