Erling Haaland: How Manchester City's Goal Machine Broke the Premier League's 100-Goal Record
By Shamoon Hafez and Gary Rose
Erling Haaland, the Norwegian striker, has shattered the Premier League's 100-goal mark, achieving it faster than any player in the competition's history. This feat was accomplished in Manchester City's thrilling 5-4 win over Fulham on Tuesday, where Haaland's 100th goal was a highlight.
Haaland, who could have represented England internationally, has had an extraordinary season, scoring 20 goals in 19 games across all competitions. Despite a recent dry spell, where he went three games without a goal, Haaland's overall performance has been exceptional.
The 25-year-old's goal-scoring prowess was on full display against Fulham, where he steered home Jeremy Doku's cross in the first half. Haaland's celebration, a 'robot' dance, showcased his joy and pride in achieving this milestone.
Haaland's impact on Manchester City is immense, with his 15 league goals contributing to the team's 32 total goals this season. Pep Guardiola, the City manager, praised Haaland's achievement, calling it 'incredible' and highlighting his outstanding performance on the day.
Haaland's goal-scoring record is even more impressive when considering his rapid ascent to the top. Since joining Manchester City from Borussia Dortmund in 2022, he has scored 100 goals in just 111 appearances, breaking Alan Shearer's record by 13 games. Shearer, a former England captain, took 124 games to reach the 100-goal mark.
Haaland's contract with Manchester City runs until 2034, and with his current form, he is well on his way to surpassing Shearer's Premier League record of 260 goals. His ability to consistently score in the top flight is remarkable, and he has achieved double figures for goals in a single Premier League campaign in the fewest appearances of any striker.
Haaland's journey to the top has not been without challenges. Just over a year ago, some questioned his form, but he has since proven his critics wrong. Despite a lean period, Haaland's 'worst' season still saw him score 34 goals across all competitions, including 22 in the Premier League.
In the 2025-26 season, Haaland has already scored 15 goals in 14 top-flight appearances and 20 in 19 matches overall. With his contract extension and continued success, Haaland is set to become one of the most prolific goal-scorers in Premier League history, leaving a lasting legacy at Manchester City.
