Liquor License Revoked at Etobicoke Bar: Allegations of Purchasing Stolen Alcohol
An Etobicoke bar has had its liquor license revoked by the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) for allegedly purchasing stolen alcohol.
But here's where it gets controversial... The AGCO investigation revealed that the licensee and manager of Southside Johnny's Bar and Grill were not only purchasing stolen liquor for the bar but also for personal use. This breach of integrity is a serious offense, as it not only violates the law but also compromises public safety and introduces illegal goods into Ontario's regulated alcohol market.
The AGCO found that the bar was in violation of the Liquor Licence and Control Act, which states that the license holder must conduct business with integrity and honesty. The stolen liquor was allegedly stored on-site and, in some cases, larger bottles were poured into smaller ones to fit the bar's dispensing system.
"Purchasing stolen liquor is a serious breach of integrity that not only violates the law but also compromises public safety and introduces illegal goods into Ontario's regulated alcohol market," said Dr. Karin Schnarr, Registrar and CEO of the AGCO.
The investigation was led by the AGCO, which coordinated with police and other law enforcement partners, as well as the Liquor Control Board of Ontario (LCBO).
Southside Johnny's has the right to appeal the decision within 15 days to the License Appeal Tribunal. But will they? And what do you think? Is this a fair decision? Or is there more to the story that we're missing? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
