Breaking News: Georgia Bulldogs cornerback Daniel Harris is entering the NCAA Transfer Portal. This announcement marks a significant shift in the Bulldogs' roster dynamics, and it's happening even before the season concludes.
On Sunday evening, Hayes Fawcett from On3 reported that Daniel Harris, after spending three years in Athens, plans to explore his options via the transfer portal. This makes him the first Bulldog to enter the portal this cycle.
Fawcett's post on X (formerly Twitter) quickly spread the news: "BREAKING: Georgia CB Daniel Harris plans to enter the @TransferPortal, he tells @On3Sports."
This news comes as a bit of a surprise, given that the season is still ongoing. With the Bulldogs' strong performance, including a victory against Texas A&M, they are set to compete in the SEC Championship against Alabama next weekend and are almost guaranteed a spot in the College Football Playoff.
During his time at Georgia, Harris played in 27 games, making several starts in the secondary. He concluded his career with the Bulldogs with 30 tackles and three deflections. This season, as a junior, he recorded seven tackles across eight games.
Harris, a native of Miami, Florida, played high school football at Gulliver Prep. He was a highly-regarded recruit, ranking in the Top-175 overall and earning a four-star rating in the 2023 recruiting cycle. He was also among the Top-20 cornerbacks and a Top-40 player in Florida, according to Rivals' Industry Ranking. Harris committed to Georgia and was part of the No. 2 recruiting class in the nation in 2023.
But here's where it gets controversial... While Georgia prepares for the postseason, including the SEC Championship and potentially a bye in the CFP, Harris is already looking ahead. The transfer portal officially opens on January 2nd, and Harris is poised to be among the first to make a move.
