During the second period of Friday night’s game on November 28, Palmieri collided awkwardly with Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Jamie Drysdale and went down hard, writhing in pain. For a moment, it looked like his night was done. The crowd fell silent as he struggled to get back on his skates, slowly making his way toward the bench while the puck drifted across the rink.

The Islanders later confirmed that Palmieri had suffered a lower-body injury and would not return to the ice that night. Head coach Patrick Roy offered a sobering postgame update, saying the forward would be evaluated by doctors on Saturday. “I think everyone knows,” Roy said cautiously, “it doesn’t look very good.”
