In an impressive milestone, Patrick Kane has etched his name into the annals of hockey history. On Thursday night, during a triumphant 5-1 victory for the Red Wings over the Canucks, Kane scored his 500th goal, making him only the second American-born player to achieve this remarkable feat.
Kane, who hails from Buffalo, New York, reached this significant milestone with an empty-net goal just 3:53 before the final buzzer, marking one of the two goals he netted that evening. This achievement not only signifies his scoring prowess but also brought his career points total to 1,369, placing him merely six points shy of the legendary Hall of Famer Mike Modano, who holds the record for the most points by a U.S.-born player with 1,374.
Throughout his illustrious career, Kane has made waves in the league. As a key player for the Chicago Blackhawks, he became the first American to capture the prestigious Hart Memorial Trophy in the wake of the 2015-16 season and also clinched the Art Ross Trophy that same year, recognizing him as the NHL's leading scorer.
Kane's accomplishments include three Stanley Cup championships, and as he continues to excel, many anticipate that he will be a first-ballot inductee into the Hockey Hall of Fame once he decides to hang up his skates—a decision he does not foresee in the near future.
"I still have a deep passion for the game," Kane shared back in April 2025 at the conclusion of the previous season. "It’s my life and what I think about daily. Whether it’s how I maintain my body, my summer plans, training regimens, or envisioning my performance next year—every aspect excites me. The preparation for each game is something I cherish, and I'm not considering retirement anytime soon."
Currently, Kane is enjoying his third season with the Red Wings after having spent the majority of his NHL tenure with the Blackhawks, who selected him first overall in the 2007 draft. He also had a brief spell with the Rangers during the 2022-23 season, where he played 19 games after being traded from Detroit.
So, what do you think about Kane's journey and his incredible achievement? Do you believe he will surpass Modano's point record? Let's discuss!
