Two Rangers Make it to the BA Top 100 List: A Closer Look at Sebastian Walcott and Caden Scarborough
Two Rangers have made it to the prestigious Baseball America (BA) Top 100 list, and it's a big deal. Sebastian Walcott, a pitcher, was a shoo-in for the top 100, with the question being whether he'd crack the top 10. And he did, landing at #16, between pitcher Bubba Chandler of the Pittsburgh Pirates and pitcher Payton Tolle of the Boston Red Sox.
But it's the other Ranger, Caden Scarborough, who's a right-handed pitcher, that's truly impressive. He's ranked #65, between outfielder Theo Gillen of the Rays and shortstop JoJo Parker of the Jays. Scarborough, a 6th-round pick in 2023 from Harmony High School, signed for an above-slot $515,000 bonus.
After not pitching professionally in 2023, Scarborough was limited to just 10 innings in 2024. But he really came into his own in 2025, posting a 2.45 ERA in 88 innings over 22 starts, mostly at low-A. He also had three scoreless appearances at high-A at the end of the season and a three-run, three-inning appearance in the South Atlantic League playoffs.
Scarborough's performance improved as the season progressed. He allowed just six earned runs in his final 12 appearances, three of which came in that playoff start. He didn't allow an earned run in his final five regular-season appearances. Scarborough struck out 114 batters against just 21 walks, and he's only 20 years old (turning 21 in April).
BA rates Scarborough's fastball at 70, which is sure to play well. With his talent and potential, Scarborough is likely to start the season at high-A but could be in Frisco (presumably the Texas Rangers' AAA affiliate) by the second half of the season if he continues to perform as the BA ranking suggests.
